NRC INSPECTION NO. 50-309/93-22
This transmits the results of the resident inspection activities performed between August 30
and October 11, 1993 by Messrs. J. Yerokun and W. Olsen at the Maine Yankee Atomic
Power Plant, Wiscasset, Maine. The inspection involved observations of plant activities and.
equipment, interviews, and document reviews. The findings were discussed with members
of your staff during the inspection period and with Messrs. G. Leitch, R. Blackmore and
others of your staff at the exit meeting held on October 13, 1993.
There was good management involvement in plant activities. Outage activities were
conducted in a controlled and safe manner. Core reload and startup activities were
conducted safely and without incident.
We noted a failure to properly follow a radiation protection procedure which resulted in the
-
loss of a check source for two days. In accordance with 10 CFR 2, Appendix C, this
'
violation is not being cited because the safety significance was minimal and you promptly
'
identified and corrected the situation.

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice", a copy of this letter and
its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
