Dear Mr. Colvin:
Thank you for your letter dated July 20, 1993, in which you identified the formation of a new working group to assess and improve current quality assurance practices associated with the implementation of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B requirements.
The NRC supports this important NUMARC initiative and we share your interest in a constructive interactive process that will potentially result in more effective implementation of nuclear quality assurance programs.
In order to facilitate this objective, a public meeting has been scheduled for August 12, 1993, at our One White Flint North offices to discuss these issues with members of your staff.
In addition, my staff has increased its level of attention with respect to quality assurance issues.
For example, an internal NRC staff quality assurance counterpart meeting is planned in August 1993 to discuss a wide spectrum of related topics.
Future inquiries within this area should be directed to either Mr. Gary Zech or Mr. Robert Gramm of my staff. Mr. Zech and Mr. Gramm can be reached at (301) 504-1017 and (301) 504-1010, respectively.
Mr. Charles Rossi will be the division director responsible for NRC activities in this area.
