Gulf States Utilities ATTN: Mr. John R. McGaha Senior Vice President - River Bend Nuclear Group Post Office Box 220 St. Francisville, Louisiana 70775
Dear Mr. Gaha:
SUBJECT:
SAFETY EVALUATION FOR REVISION 6 TO THE RIVER BEND STATION PUMP AND VALVE INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM AND REQUESTS FOR RELIEF (TAC NO. M85781)
By letter dated February 1,1993, you transmitted Revision 6 to the River Bend Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Program.
Included in this program plan were two new requests for relief from the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, VRR-65 and VRR-I-01, and two revised relief requests, PRR-4 and VRR-24.
The staff has completed its review of Revision 6 to the River Bend Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Program.
For the reliefs granted in the enclosed Safety Evaluation (SE), the staff has determined that an acceptable alternative was proposed pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i) and (f)(6)(i), and that granting relief is authorized by law, will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest.
In making this determination, the staff has given due consideration to the burden that could result if those requirements were imposed on your facility.
This letter grants the relief.
Sincerely, Original Signed by Edward T. Baker for Suzanne C. Black, Director Project Directorate IV-2 Division of Reactor Projects III/IV/V Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Enclosure Safety Evaluation cc w/ enclosure:
