o 4-1 AUG 311993 License No. SNM-1978 Docket No. 070-03052 Premier American Technologies Corporation ATTN: Mark A. Lemley President and Chief Executive Officer 1155 Zion Road Bellefonte, Pennsylvania 16823 i
Subject:
M.A.A.S., Inc. License Retirement
]
Dear Mr. Lemley:
This refers to an announced, special inspection of the former M.A.A.S., Inc. now occupied by Premier American Technologies Corporation undertaken to: (1) locate unaccounted for I
enriched U-235 and uranium hexafluoride; and, (2) retire the M.A.A.S. license.
The enriched uranium was located and turned over to a NRC licensee holding a valid, i
specific license to possess, store and use enriched uranium. The NRC confirmed possession i
of the uranium hexafluoride by Martin Marietta Energy Systems. The inspectors surveyed a concrete block storage shed and wooden closet at the former M.A. A.S facility and took wipes and media samples. No radioactive material was detected. Additional radioactive material from M.A.A.S. was taken by Applied Health Physics, Inc. and Penn State University. Some materials, as detailed in the enclosed inspection report, were not located. Please advise the NRC of the ::teps you will take to locate this material so the requirements of 10 CFR 70.38 (b) and (c) are met, permitting retirement of the M.A.A.S. license and release of the facility for unrestricted use.
4 In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice", Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and your reply will be placed in the Public j
