An announced safety inspection of the radwaste, transportation and radiation protection
programs at your facility was conducted by Mr. J. Furia of this office on October 4-8,1993.

The inspection findings were discussed with you and members of your staff at the conclusion
of the inspection on October 8,1993.

Areas examined during this inspection are important to health and safety and are described in
the NRC Region I Inspection Report enclosed with this letter. Within the areas reviewed,
the inspection. consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records,
interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Continued generally strong performance in the radwaste and transportation program,
including assurance of quality, was noted. Some weaknesses were observed during a
shipment made on October 5,1993, including one non-cited violation. Actions taken by
. your staff in response to these weaknesses were prompt and comprehenshe.
