After a long and very busy trip to Europe and Central Asia, I have returned to Washington with some new impressions and ideas of the challenges facing nuclear energy in the CIS.
Separately, I have sent you a copy of the statement I recently presented before the U.S.
Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources that reports these impressions.
Slow progress in safety is being made.
I want to thank you for meeting me on Saturday when I arrived at the Munich airport and for accompanying me to the Isar nuclear power facility, which is an impressive plant that Bayernwerk should be proud of owning.
You helped to make my first visit to Munich complete with the enjoyable Oktoberfest evening we shared.
I look forward to meeting with you again and having the opportunity to continue our discussion.
