SUMMARY
OF TECHNICAL NEETING WITH THE INSTITUTE OfNUCLEARPOWEROPERATIONS(INPO)
A technici.1 meeting was held on July 31, 1990 between members of the NRC and IhPO staffs at the INPO offices in Atlanta, GA. Encicsed is a list of the meeting attendees.
The purpose of the meeting was to exchange technical informbtion perteining to the INPO document " Maintenance Programs in the Nuclear Power Industry, INP0 90-008, Revision 01."
The following-topics were discussed:
1.
IhPO Corporate Structure
.INPO defined their current corporate structure and program responsibili-
- ties, thPO also described their periodic plant eveluation process.
2.
INPO Document Structure INP0 described the structure and differences between the various levcis of-INP0 evaluation-related docuneents. These documents provide performance objectives and criteria that. utilities have coanitted to nieet, as well as guidelines on how to meet them.. The role of these documents in the INPO evaluation process was 61so discussed, especitilly as it relates to the preparation phase of an evaluation.

oescribed the place of INP0 90-008 in the hierarchy of INPO documents.

Analysis of INPO 90-008 The NRC described the analysis approach being used to determine the suitability of INPO 90-008 as an industry maintenance standard. The basic methodology is an item-by-item comparison between INPO 90-008 and the NRC's Mcintenance Team inspection Guidance (MTIG), Volume 1.
For demonstration pcrposes, the NRC discussed the completed comparisons for f6 HTIG elements S.1, 4.2, 5.3 and 5.9.
Areas of difference between the two L
documents were also discussed.
INP0 indicated that several changes to INPO 90-008 would be included in a forthcoming revision of the document.
