Dear Mr. Wassel:

-l

SUBJECT:

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION ON THE DOSE VS. RELEASE CALCULATIONS i

PRESENTED AT THE NOVEMBER MEETING 0F THE COMMITTEE ON TECHNICAL BASES FOR YUCCA MOUNTAIN STANDARDS During the presentation by Dr. Norman Eisenberg, a member of my staff, at the l

November meeting of the Committee on Technical Bases for Yucca Mountain Standards, questions were raised regarding the relative impact of different radionuclides due to drilling events.

I am enclosing a brief analysis of the calculations used to obtain the results that were presented. Also enclosed is a brief response to questions raised about the relationship of undisturbed and i

disturbed repository performance. This information, I believe, should be

{

sufficient to answer the questions posed by the Committee. Also, I am i

enclosing a revised copy of the transparencies used during the presentation.

t i

A report on the use of institutional controls to protect waste disposal sites-

[

from inadvertent intrusion has recently become publicly available.

I am i

l enclosing eight copies of this report, SECY-93-322, for use by the Committee.

i f

i I hope that the information provided here will be useful to the Committee and will facilitate its deliberations.

Sincerely, k

l i
