This acknowledges receipt of your letter dated July 12, 1990, regarding Babcock & Wilcox's (B&W's) continuing assurance to pay for the eventual decommir.sioning of its NRC licensed facilities.
In your letter, you certify that BLW's estimated costs for decommissioning its NRC licensed facilities, excluding those covered by SNM.42, are lower than B&W's working capital, as of March 31, 1990.
B&W's Naval Nuclear Fuel Division facilities licensed under SNM-42 were excluded from the estimated cost of decommissioning because B&W and the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) have concluded negotiations in which DOE will be responsible for the cost of decommissioning B&W's facilities covered by 1
that license.
As you stated in you letter, B&W will provide financial assurance for all of its NRC licensed facilities exclusively by the methods provided for in the General Requirements for Decommissioning Nuclear Facilities (53 FR 24018) dated June 27, 1988.
In that regard, we acknowledge receipt of your letter dated July 24, 1990, with your plan to meet the requirements.
