NSP NORTHERN STATES POWER COMPANY MIN N E A PO LIS. M E N N E S OTA 55401 August 12, 1976 Mr. James G. Keppler Director - Region III Office of Inspection and Enforcement United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137

Dear Mr. Keppler:

MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 The following information is submitted in response to IE Bulletin No. 76-07:

No modifications similar to those described in the Bulletin have been made for crane hoist controls at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. The existing brake power contactors functioned properly during crane tests and have shown setisfactory service since initial operatic.n of the plant in 1970.

We are planning modifications to the, reactor.. building crane system to provide redundancy of load path components. This design change is still in its-early stages, but will require NRC's prior approval for installation. All necessary review and testing requirements will be evaluated by the NRC during that apprc,t al process.

Yours very truly, G
