This report transmits the findings of the safety inspection enadwR by the 'r esident inigswis -  :

at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. At the conclusion of the inspection, these findings

were discussed with Mr. Cruse of your staff.

'

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report that

is enclosed with this letter and were selected in order to ensure that your facility is operated with- 1

due regard for the public health and safety. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of L

selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and t

observations by the inspectors. Overall, the NRC has concluded that your facility was operated

in a safe manner.

Inspectors reviewed the circumstances surrounding a missed surveillance test Due to inattention

to detail, BG&E failed to perform the required monthly surveillance test on the electric fire

~

pump. Although the failure to perform the test within the required periodicity was a violation j

of NRC requirements, the violation was not cited because the criteria fordiscretion specified m
