Dear Sir / Madam:

I have read with interest the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the construction and operation of the Claiborne Enrichment Center (CEC) near Homer, Louisiana.

The NRC is to be complimented on having prepared a very comprehensive and objective statement.

I wholeheartedly endorse the statement, and enthusiastically support the establishment of the CEC. My support is based on having studied the uranium enrichment process very carefully for several years, particularly the potential hazards associated therewith.

I should also state that I have both children and grandchildren living in this community. Their safety and welfare are of the utmost important to me.

Not surprisingly, there is a small but vocal minority in our community who oppose the CEC. Some people are genuinely frightened because they do not understand the technology or the fact that they live in a world, indeed a universe, that is filled with radiation. ' Yet they.

willingly accept existing, but far more dangerous, industries with which they are familiar such as agriculture, forestry, and the oil industry.

The safeguards that will pertain to the CEC will be more than adequate to protect all citizens. The increased radiation to which we will be exposed will be negligible and of no -

consequence.

The fact that similar plants in Europe are located in, or adjacent to, major residential areas is highly significant. This plant will be one of the safest facilities that our community could possibly hope to have, and will aid in reducing the greatest risks that our citizens face, namely, poverty and unemployment.

I recommend that the CEC be licensed at the earliest practical date.

i Sincerely,

//
