Dear Mr. Haynes:
This. letter acknowledges receipt of your February 22, 1990, letter which
- transmitted the. Presbytery of Geneva's Resolution on Potential Nuclear Waste -
Disposal Sites. As you may know, the State of New York has entered into an agreement with the-Nuclear Regulatory Connission (NRC) under which that state
.directly regulates disposal of _ low-level radioactive waste. New York, and -
other states with such agreements, must have regulatory programs that are-compatible with the NRC's' program in order to assure the protection of public health.and safety and environmental-quality.
-Your interest in the safe disposal of nuclear wastes is noted.
I trust the additional information_ contained herein describing the respective regulatory -
responsibilities of the NRC and the State of New York is helpful.
