Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Anticipated Transients without Scram (ATWS)

Your October 19, 1973 letter on this subject requested that we advise you by January 1, 1974 of the approach we intend to take dealing with ATWS, Review of your letter and the Regulatory staff's document on anticipated transients without scram (WASH-1270) indicates that the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant is in classification 1.C of the AIWS position statement.

We intend to follow the Section C approach (WASH-1270, Appendix A) and submit the analysis of the consequences of ATWS by October 1,1974 We are currently working with General Electric on performance of the necessary analysis and intend to submit a report which addresses the requirements of Section II.C on the schedule indicated above.

Yours very truly, h*

L O Mayer, PE Director of Nuclear Support Services 12
