Dear Mr. Skovholt:

FONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PIANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Hydraulic Shock Suppressors and Restraints All shock suppressors on safety related systems located outside primary containment were re-inspected on March 13, 1974. Those shock suppressors located on safety related systems within primary containment were re-inspected on March 16, 1974.

External inspection of the units outside primary containment identified no oil loss from any of the units. External inspection of the units inside primary containment identified oil loss from one unit (SS-BAR). This anit had previously indicated oil loss as reported in our February 25, 1974 report. Disassembly of the unit revealed that one of the accumulator tube seal 0-rings had been cut and damaged during previous maintenance in November 1973. The unit was rebuilt with ethylene propylene software parts.

An inspection of the hydraulic shock suppressors on safety related systems located outside the primary containment will be conducted in approximately six months and during the next refueling outage. Those units within primary containment will be inspected during the next refueling outage and during scheduled or unscheduled outages for which drywell entry may be required for other purposes.

Based on the i

results of the inspections to date, it is believed that this is a reasonable surveillance schedule.

Yours truly, h-L 0 Mayer, PE
