Gentlemen:
This refers to the inspection conducted by Dr. J. B. Nicholas of this office .
y
and Dr. J. C. Jang of the NRC Region I of fice during the_ period.0ctober 15-19,
l
1990, of the activities authorized by NRC Operating License DPR-40 for the Fort
Calhoun Station, and to the discussion of our findings with Dr. ,J. K. Gasper
and other members of your staff at the' conclusion of the-inspection on
October 19, 1990.
Areas examined during the inspection included portions of the liquid and
gaseous radioactive waste management programs and confirmatory dose
calculations of the offsite doses from radioactive waste effluents released to
the environment. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observations by the inspectors.
The inspection findings are
documented in the enclosed inspection report.
Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were
l
identified. However, we identified some confirmatory calculation l disagreements
,
between your calculated offsite dose results and those calculated using our
~
PC-DOSE computer code. The problem appears to be in the computer codes used to
calculate your dose values.
The dose result disagreements'are discussed in
paragraph 7 (0 pen Item 285/9041-04) of the enclosed inspection report.
.
'
Accordingly, you are requested to respond in writing to1this: office, within

actions for Open Items (285/9041-01; 285/9041-02; and 285/9041-03) as discussed-
in the enclosed inspection report.

these commitments is different than' documented in the report.

- c
identified inspection findings
