This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Ms. L. Peluso

and Dr. R. Struckmeyer of this office on November 5-9, 1990 of activities
authorized by NRC License No. DPR-3 at the Yankee Nuclear Power Station, Rowe,
Massachusetts and to the discussions of our findings held by Ms. L. Peluso and
Dr. R. Struckmeyer with Mr.- N. St. Laurent and other members of your' staff at

the conclusion of the inspection.
'
Areas examined during this inspection are. described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter.
Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and
representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the
inspectors.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
However, we note that a problem with meteorological analog chart recorder
drif t has persisted since July,1989, our last inspection of this area.
We
understand that your thorough reexamination of this area will be completed by
March 1991, along with your selection-of the appropriate long term fix.
