Purpose:
To request Commission approval for proposed members of the NSRRC.
Background:
There are now three vacancies on the NSRRC due to expirations 1
of terms.
To mainte.in the required balance on the NSRRC.and expertise in'huma~n factors, reactor design and nuclear operations as well as expand the base of experience in the.NSRRC in AdvanceLightWaterReactor(ALWR) design,Iwish_toreplace Mr. Cordell Reed with Mr. Edwin E. Kintner and Dr. Sheridan with Dr. David D. Woocs. A replacement for Dr. Hendrie is under review.
Discussion:
Attached are the biographical sketch of Mr. Edwin E. Kintner j
and the curriculum vitae of Dr. David D. Woods. Mr. Kintner, Executive Vice President of GPU Nuclear Corporation, is _widely known for.his work in the U.S. Nhyy's program for development of nuclear propulsion of ships.
He was Project Officer for the-world's 'irst nuclear powered submarine, the U.S.S. Nautilus.
Mr. Kintner is past chairman of EPRI's Nuclear Power Division Advisory Committee and current member of the M.I.T. Corporation V"iting Committee for_ Nuclear Engineering. Dr. Woods, Associate Piefessor, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, The Ohi: State University, is well known and highly respected for his research on enhancing human performance in work environments, 4

1.E EDWIN E. KINTNER Eneoutive Vloe PresMerrt GPUN Edwin E Kintner, who's background includes many years of nuclear reactor experience both with the military and private industry, is Executive V dont of GPU Nuclear Corporation. He joined.the company in June 1983.
In his position, he asststs the Office of the President in providing uniform po cios and operational critena for the safe and effective operation of all system nuclear facdities.
He also is active in the Electne Power Reveerch institute (EPRO, where he past Chairman of the Nuclear Power Division Adv Light Water Reactor (ALWR) Utility Steering Committee.
In addition, he is a member of the M.I.. Corporation Visiting Committee for T
Nuclear Engineering. He also holds membership in the American Nuclear Society.
Before joining GPU Nuclear, Kintner was Assistant to the Vice President, Advanced Technologies, of TITAN Sptems, Inc. Previously be was, for five years, Director of the U.S. Magnetic Fusion Program in the Depar Energy and its piedecessor agency.
For five previous years. he was Assistant Director for Reactor Enginee then Deputy Director of the former Atomic Energy Commission's Reactor Development Division.
Kentner was one of the first officers to join the U.S. Navy's prograrn for opment of nuclear propulsion of ships, and served in various positions program, reporting directly to Mmiral Hyman G. Rickover for 14 yea such position was Proicct Officer for the world's first nuclear powered s marine, tne U.S.S. Nautilus.
He retired from the Navy after 21 years of service. having attained th Captain.
f Among awards granted to Kintner during his professional career are the retary of the Navy Commendation Medal, the title of Distinguished Alu Massachusetts institute of Technology, and the highest bonus award of the Senor Executive Service.
Kintner represented this country as Chairman of the U.SJU.S.S.R. Joint F Power Coordinating Committee and Chairman of tne U.S1 Government o Japan Fusion Power Coordinating Committee; U S. Representative to nationa! Fusion Research Council; U.S. Representative to the intemational Energy Agency's Fusion Power Coordinating Committee; and Cha U S. Fusion Power Coordinating Cornmittee.
Kintner received a Bache'or of Science Degree from the U.S. Naval Aca and two Master's Degrees one in Nuclear Physics and the other in Ma Engineering, both trom M.l?
