I Enclosed is an application for an export license (XSNM02784), recently received by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, for the export of low-enriched uranium in the form of five (5) TRIGA fuel elements for use in the ICI TRIGA reactor and the l

export of low-enriched and high-enriched uranium as scrap to United Kingdom l

Atomic Energy Authority for scrap recovery in the United Kingdom. A letter of assurance is required that the material will be subject to all of the terms and conditions of an agreement for cooperation.

Request for License to Export SNM to the United Kingdom

Dear Mr. Hauber:

General Atomics (GA) hereby makes application, pursuant to 10 CFR 110, for an NRC Export License to export SNM to the United Kingdom. The requested export authorization is comprised of two separate exports related to the transfer of TRIGA fuel elements and TRIGA fuel manufacturing scrap to two different locations within the UK. The TRIGA fuel elements will be shipped to Imperial Chemical Industries (ICl) as replacement fuel for use in their TRIGA reactor. The unirradiated manufacturing scrap alloy material will be shipped to the United Kin 0 dom Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) for scrap recovery and will be returned to GA as less than 20% enriched uranium metal.

Further, G A requests that this license be processed as expeditiously as possible in order to meet a scheduled shipment of the first fuel element to ICI by the end of this calendar year, Enclosed is a completed NRC form 7 as well as a check in the amount of $3,300 to cover the fee for the requested license.
