Dear Mr. Chernoff:
We received the Project Interface Document (PID) No. 09-5-18 for the Mexican Hat, Utah, Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project site, which was sent with your letter dated September 20, 1993. The PID review has been defcrred pending submittal of additional information regarding design changes to the cell.
However, as discussed with Russel Edge, of your staff, on IW amber 23, 1993, we reviewed the PID sufficiently to conclude that Type B1 rock can be used in areas where the size of such rock is appropriate.
We further understand that additional design changes, which also incorporate Type B1 rock, have been made and will be submitted by the Department of Energy (DOE) in PID No. 20. When that PID is submitted, we will perform a detailed review of the final design changes.
