Background
Mississippi Power & Light Company is licensed under NRC Materials License No. SNM-1882 for the receipt, possession, inspection and storage of uranium enriched in the U-235 isotope contained in fuel assemblies and in fission chambers, the receipt, possession and use of Sb-Be neutron sources, and the receipt, possession and testing of a depleted uranium shield plug for eventual use in connection with the operation of the Grend Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1.
The license is sbheduled to expire June 30, 1982.
The application requests that the expiration date be extended to December 31, 1982.
II.
Discussion ~
The need for an extension of the license expiration date is due to the possible unexpected delays in the issuance of an operating license.
Extending the expiration date does not effect the radiological safety, nuclear safety, or other parameters on-which the issuance of the license was based.
III. Recommendation 4
On the basis of the above, the staff recommends that the license be extended, as requested by the licensee.
