Dear Chairman Palladino:
This organization has been active in monitoring the Vermont Yankee nuclear facility in Vernon, Vermont.
The problems associated with this facility have been numerous and unpredictable.
Given the potential consequences, we have learned that constant attention and research must be pursued in order to keep up with the rapid sophistication of the risks (as well as the sloppiness of the operators).
It has come to our a t t en tion tha t you are cu rren tly considering several issues relating to the licensing of the most complex and potentially dangerous generating facility in the U.S.:
the Clinch River Breeder Reactor.
We strongly believe that events and significant new information relating to this facility must be seriously scrutinized before the issuance of a draft supplement to the final Environmental Impact Statement.
We also l
request that when the latter supplement is issued that it be circulated wiaely among the interested public -- including VPIRG.
In many instances, M r.
Palladino, you have stood your ground in the face of Reagan's policies.
Please maintain your courage and actively investigate the many, many areas o'f serious concern relating to the Breeder Reactor.
if nuclear power has taught us anything, it has taught us to be wary of expedient, politically motivated decisions.
