Request to Reschedule Independent Radiation Safety Review Date j
Dear Mr. Pierson:
In addition to our routine internal radiation safety audit programs, SNM-1097, I
Section 2.8.3 requires an external radiation safety audit at a frequencv.of every two j
years by an appropriate function outside of the GE-Wilmington organization. This l
audit was last performed during the fourth quarter 1991, and was planned to be conducted again on site during the fourth quarter in 1993.
N Significant activities are underway to implement the new standards for protection against radiation contained in the revised 10CFR20. These changes to our Radiation Safety programs will become effective on January 1,1994. There have been no other significant changes to our Radiation Safety programs since the 1991 external review; i
consequently, we believe rescheduling the audit until after implementation of the revised 10CFR20 requirements would be of more value. With your concurrence, it will i
be conducted during the March-May,1994 time frame.
The advantages of rescheduling this external review was discussed with our Region 11 facil!!y coordinator, Mr. G.L. Troup, on November 15,1993.
