RESOUPIECONSERVATIONANDRECOVERYACT(RCRA) INFORMATIONAL PAM % ET The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with assistance from the Nuclear Regulatory Comission LNRC) Headquarters staff, has prepared a pamphlet entitled " Low-Level Mixed Waste, A RCRA Perspective Tcr NRC Licensees." The intent of this pamphlet is to introduce NRC licensees to specific requirements of RCRA. NRC Headquarters staff will soon be distributing this pamphlet to those licensees that may be generating mixed radioactive and hazardous waste. Determination of which licensees would be receiving the booklet was made by reviewing current license program code descriptions and distributing the pamphlet to those licensees likely to generate mixed waste. A notice will appear in the next Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) Newsletter announcing the availability of this pamphlet, in case some licensees were inadvertently
. omitted f rom the mailing.
In addition, copies of the booklet will be sent to the appropriate regulatory authorities in each of the NRC Agreement e
States for distribution to their licensees.
Enclosed you will find several copies of the pamphlet so you can f amiliarize your staff with the information being sent to the licensees.
NMSS, in conjunction with EPA, is developing c one-day course on RCRA and mixed waste regulations for presentation to your staff.
NMSS is targeting early FY91 for the availability of this course.
Ine intent of this course will be to familiarize NRC Regional Office personnel with RCRA regulations in general, and mixed waste specifically.
If your staff receives questions from licensees needing detailed information regarding the mixed waste issue, please refer the licensees or questions to one of the following:
