Docket No. 50-278 Mr. John F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Stolz:

At the request of Mr. M. Fairtile of your staff, we are pleased to provide the following additional information in support of our recent license amendment application for modification of Minimum Critical Power Ratio (MCPR) limits.

Question 1:

Why did the original Peach Bottom 3, Reload 4, license amendment application MCPR limits differ from the calculated values documented in General Electric document Y1003J01A20, " Supplemental Reload Licensing Submittal for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Unit 3, Reload No. 4"?

Response

The option B MCPR limits contained in the Peach Bottom 3, Reload 4 license amendment application were arbitrarily increased (in the conservative direction) for cycle exposures from beginning of cycle 5 to end of cycle 5 minus 2000 MWD /t.

The slight increase was employed to reduce the need for future cycle dependent revisions to the Technical Specifications in order to accommodate future refuelings in accordance with the provisions of 10CFR50.59.
