Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Units 1 and 2 50-424; 50-425 Embeds - 1982 Gentlemen:
On April 26, 1982, Mr. Virgil Brownlee of the NRC was notified by Mr. E. D. Groover, quality assurance site supervisor for Georgia Power Company at the Vogtle Project, of a potential deficiency concerning embeds.
Georgia Power Company has gathered the necessary information required to perform an engineering evaluation.
This information includes lack of full thread engagement (distance from back of plate) and the bolts which were inaccessible for visual inspection. An engineering evaluation must be made to determine if:
a) the embed plate is acceptable for use in its present condition, or b) repair work can be performed on the embed plate, or c) the embed plate must be derated, or d) the embed plate must be abandoned At the present time, Georgia Power Company cannot determine a date by which our evaluation will be completed. An interim report will be sent to the NRC on or before September 17, 1982.
