- 6) Serial lL268; dated December h, 1981 This letter, as were the referenced letters, is an interim 50 55(e) report concerning a potentially unsafe situation with respect to the tripping of reactor coolant pumps during certain primary system high void fraction conditions.
Bechtel engineering work for the hardware design is complete.
B&W's FCA for modification of the ECCAS panels was completed in April 1982.
Hardware delivery is expected to be completed in July 1982.
Implementation of the modification is still scheduled for September 1982.
Since December 1981, there has been considerable interaction between the URC staff and the B&W owner's group (including CPCo participation) regarding the advisability of automatic tripping of the reactor coolant pumps.
Conclusions concerning the RC pump operation during a small break LOCA have proven difficult to reach. The B&W owner's group has requested B&W to finali e their recommendation for the reactor coolant pump trip set points At this time, no dates have been projected for establishing a final recommendation.
