l Preparation and Evaluation of Radiological Emergency Response Plans and l
Preparedness in Support of Nuclear Power Plants
- and in accordance with Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station (CPSES) Emergency Plan Procedures.

l Event Description j
On November 17, 1993, at approximately 7:35 a.m. (CST), with Unit 1 in f
l MODE 6 and Unit 2 in MODE 1, a Notification of Unusual Event was declared due to loss of all primary and backup meteorological system instruments.
A lighting strike had' damaged the back-up tower instruments and some primary tower instruments the previous day. The time of total loss of primary tower l
functionality is under investigation.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and appropriate offsite agencies were notified in accordance with the applicable regulatory and procedural i
requirements.
l On November 17, 1993, at approximately 10:50 a.m. (CST), the Notice of
)
l Unusual Event was terminated after personnel returned the primary tower to 1
l an operational status.

j Corrective Action I
l Immediate corrective actions were taken to contact the local National Weather Service for substitute meteorological data until the primary tower

was returned to service by corrective actions of plant personnel.
