Subject:
Contract No. NRC-03-90 027, last Order No. 8 Entitled " Review of Heat Transfer Model in Relap 5YA" (FIN L-1318) in accordance with Section G.5, Accelerated Task Order Procedures, of the subject contract, this letter definitizes Task Order No. 8.
This effort shall be performed in accordance with the enclosed Statement of Work and the Contractor's proposal dated October 2, 1990, incorporated herein by reference.
The period of performance for Task Order No. 8 is October 1, 1990 through November 30, 1990.
The total cost ceiling is $25,492.00.
The amount of
$23,259.00 represents the total reimbursable costs and the amount of
$2,233.00 represents the fixed fee.

1he amount' presently obligated by the Government with respect to this Task Order is $10,000.00.

74595 llRC Priot ity Ranking: 3 Period of Performance: October 1, 1990 through flovember 30, 1990 BACKGR_00ND By letter dated August 25, 1987, the NRC approved.the heat transfer correlations in the RELAP5YA program for use in best estimate Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) analyses.; Af ter further review of LOCA calculations, the Yankee Atomic Electric Company. (YAEC) concluded that with input of Appendix K parameters, the
'RELAP5YA program would be an appropriate evaluation model.(Eti).
This was
' discussed with the staff..in a meeting at One White Flint North on September 7,
=1989. By letter dated October 6,1989, and as a follow up to the meeting, YAEC provided supplementary information relating to the loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) analysis methodology for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VYNPS)s The objective.of their' submittal was justification for use of the-
' RELAP5YA program in EM analysis of a.'LOCA for Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VMYNPS). The reactor systems branch reviewed the submittal and developed _a number of questions regarding the application of the heat transfer correlations in an Appendix:- K-EH.
Recently, the; licensee provided responses to those questions which are now to be reviewed by the contractor.as described below.
