This letter refers to the above subject physical security inspection of Three Mile Island (TMI)

Unit 1, by Mr. G. C. Smith of this office. The preliminary inspection findings were discussed

with Mr. M. Ross and other members of your staff 'uy Mr. Smith at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report

which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of observations

by the inspector, interviews with personnel, and selective examinations of procedures and

representative records.

We found that the physical security program being implemented at TMI was directed toward the

protection of public health and safety.

No safety concerns or violations of regulatory

requirements were identified.
