SUBJECT:
ISSUANCE OF EXEMPTION FROM THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR 50.54(q) FOR THE SHOREHAM NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 1 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued the following exemption (see ) in response to your letter of. January 26, 1993, requesting an exemption in accordance with 10 CFR 50.12(a)(1), from the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(q) of the Code of Federal Reculations, for the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1.
The exemption eliminates the requirements for the licensee to follow and maintain in effect emergency plans.
An " Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact" has been forwarded to the Office of the Federal Reoister, for publication.
Based on the NRC staff's Safety Evaluation, NRC has granted your exemption request, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.12(a)(1). A copy of the Safety Evaluation can be found in Enclosure 2.
