Dear Mr. Pierson:
REFERENCE:
Docket No. 70-1201, SNM-1168 In accordance with condition 12 of the above referenced document, B&W Fuel Company (BWFC) has completed the characterization survey and removal of the soil for the two locations that e)~-ibited elevated levels of uranium located in the wet weather stream at it's Commercial Nuclear Fuel Plant (CNFP).
As discussed with Mike Lamastra of your staff, we could not meet our original commitment date of August 1993 due to a delay in receiving the analytical data back from our vendor.
Upon removal of the contaminated soil, five verification samples were taken from each grid location.
An isotopic analysis for total uranium was performed on the samples.
The highest activity for grid B3 was 115.52 i 5.19 pCi/ gram and 29.73 i 1.11 pCi/ gram for grid G2.
With this, it is my understanding that we have met our commitment and no further action need be taken at this time.
If you should have any questions, please feel free to call me at (804) 386-5202.
Sincerely, i
L B&W FUEL COMPANY Commercial Nuclear Fuel Plant fpf%U 1 U4Qp Kathryn S.
