Ivan Selin, Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Dear Chairman Selin:
I am writing to you about the proposed Enriched Unranium plant that is being considered in Forest Grove, Loulslanna. The people of Forest Grove & Center Springs are not looking forward to this proposed plant.
As a resident of New Jersey, I am concerned that what beautiful areas of the country are left, are about to become spoiled by radioactive waste. I hcVe witnessed such examples in my own state. We have many hazardocs waste sites in NJ and while my local governmnet is making an almost inhuman effort to clean up these superfund sites, it would have been better if they had not taken place at all. Our wells are now spoiled; forcing even the most remote areas our our state to tap into city water lines.
The question I am asking you is... Does Loulslana Energy Services really need this plant? Who is going to make a profit from the further spelling our our country? Are there any long term benefits? Do these benefits outweigh the damage such a plant will cause?
Please think of future generations when you are asked for your reccomendation on this matter. I write to you because I know you have the power to make a difference r
where it counts, not in the pcckets of today's businessmen but in the future lives of our children.
The people of this country would much rather find alternatives to the dangerous fission process, as I am sure you would too, but you are the person who can make those alternatives happen, but not giving support to the further building of these plants.
The aople of Louisianna are worried, and you should be too. There has been talk that tne decision to place this plant in it's proposed site is racially based. I should hopa not; but it has been reported by the United Church Of Christ recently that a 'large number of toxic waste sites and dangerous plants are situated in low income, minority based areas of the country.' I don't know if this is true or not, and frankly, it is not my main concern, because someday, this whole country will be a toxic waste dump and no one will be able to escape it.
Thank you for letting me voice my concerns. Please respond as my friends and I are interested in getting answers to our questions and es would like to know your personal opinions regarding this matter.
