FERMI USE OF MODIFIED DAC AND ALI VALUES (TAC NO. M87107)

The staff has reviewed your August 25, 1993, letter advising the Commission of your intent to use modified derived air concentration (DAC) and annual limit on intake (ALI) values at Fermi-2 when implementing the revised 10 CFR Part 20 l

Rule. The new 10 CFR Part 20 does not provide provisions for use of revised DAC and ALI values for the reasons stated in your letter. Additionally, for those cases where the use of revised DAC and ALI values is considered (to reflect the actual physical and chemical characteristics of airborne radioactive material at your facility, e.g., aerosol size distribution or density), prior approval of the Commission is required. You are therefore reminded that absent Commission approval for those specific cases identified l

in the Rule, you should use the DAC and ALI values contained in the new 10 CFR Part 20. This position has been previously discussed with Mr. Robert Newkirk of your staff.
