DEMANDS FOR INFORMATION This is to inform the Commission that Demands for Information (DFIs) will be issued on or about September 29, 1993 to Houston Lighting and Power Company (HL&P) (South Texas Project) and to a l
supervisor employed by HL&P at the South Texas Project facility l
to obtain information related to apparent violations involving discrimination as prohibited by 10 CFR 50.7.
The transmittal letter for the DFI to the licensee will be placed in the Public Document Room; however, the DFI itself (as well as the DFI and transmittal letter to the supervisor) will be withheld from public disclosure until NRC has reviewed the required responses and reached a final decision on any necessary enforcement action.
Since the DFIs identify by name both the individuals alleging discrimination and the supervisor involved, the staff proposes to withhold these documents from public disclosure at this time to avoid publication (the allegers and the supervisor involved here were the subjects of recent newspaper articles on discrimination at South Texas) of the names of the allo 9ers and the n me of the person suspected of engaging in discrimination prior to the staff's reaching a final position on whether discrimination occurred.
1 Note that the licensee has not been informed in advance of these DFIs.
The schedule of issuance and notification is:
1 Mailing of DFIs September 29, 1993 Telephone Notification of Licensee September 29, 1993 The State of Texas will be notified.
The licensee (and for the second DFI, the supervisor involved) has thirty days from the date of the DFI in which to respond.
Following NRC evaluation of the responses, further enforcement action may be taken as deemed appropriate.
