Dear Chairman Edmo:
I am writing to acknowledge your letter of January 22, 2020, requesting government-to-government consultation with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). We understand that the Fort Hall Business Council is interested in hearing about how the NRC can offer support and training to your emergency management staff to enhance preparedness related to the shipment of nuclear materials; opportunities for Tribal involvement in the NRCs review process for small modular reactors; and a potential memorandum of agreement between the NRC and the Shoshone Bannock Tribes to facilitate and enhance communication.
As directed, we have been in contact with Ms. Talia Martin, Tribal Department of Energy Director. Ms. Sandra Talley of my staff is coordinating with Ms. Martin to plan an agenda and any required pre-consultation meetings.
