NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION n
{
WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 k.~..l p#
September 23, 1993 CHAIRMAN The Honorable Stephen D. Potts, Director Office of Government Ethics 1201 New York Avenue, N.W.
Suite 500 Washington, D.C. 20005-3917
Dear Mr. Potts:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission supports the proposed rule relating to financial disclosure that was published in the September 1, 1993 Federal Register. That rule would provide that those Federal employees who are required to submit Confidential Disclosure Reports need not report cash accounts in depository institutions, money market accounts, or U.S. Govern-ment obligations and securities.
In our view, this information is not needed for the purposes of making conflict of interest determinations for these employees.
Similarly, this information is not needed for conflict of interest determina-tions for senior Federal employees who fill out Public Financial Disclosure Reports. We therefore suggest that the Office of Government Ethics seek legislation which would eliminate the requirement that those senior Federal employees who submit Public Financial Disclosure Reports report the type of information being addressed in the proposed rule.
We appreciata your consideration of our comments.
Sincerely,
[
