Dear Mr Chernoff:

We have completed our review of the available information for Project Interface Document (PID) 03-S-30 which Mr. Russel Edge of your staff submitted for our review on March 3,1993. This PID was originally submitted to the NRC as a Class II change on February 7, 1991. However, as that submittal did not include the supporting calculations, we were unable to verify that the PID was Class II. Mr. Edge's March 3, 1993, submittal provided the supporting calculations.

The supporting calculations for Ditch No. I state that the toe trench at the outlet was designed with a depth of 15 feet. Drawing DUR-DS-10-0340 of the November 1990 plans and specifications and MKE Calc. No. 03-565-06-00 show the depth of the trench as being 20 feet. Justification for reducing the depth of the toe trench from 20 feet to 15 feet is not provided in the PID.

DOE should therefore reclassify the PID as Class I and provide justification for reducing the trench depth by 5 feet.

As a separate issue related to Durango, on June 15, 1993, we received from DOE one copy of replacement pages for the Durango Draft Completion Report that were discussed in your letter dated May 24, 1993. Our office requires more than one copy of the replacement pages. Therefore, on June 15, 1993, we requested, by telephone, two additional sets of the replacement pages. As we have not yet received the additional pages, we would like to again request that DOE provide the requested information so that we may begin our review of the Durango Draft Completion Report.
