Dear Mr. Hepler:
This is to inform you that the Tennessee Valley Authority plans to restart its
~
Sequoyah nuclear power plant Unit 2 on or about October 4, 1993, following.a seven month outage. Unit I remains shut down and is not expected to be ready for restart until perhaps December 1993.
The shutdown of these plants was unrelated to issues affecting radiological emergency planning and preparedness.
Nevertheless, we are informing you of these restart schedules since they may be of interest to you and your staff.
We understand that FEMA is not aware at this time of any offsite emergency planning issues that should be addressed by the NRC or the licensee in conjunction with the restart of the Sequoyah plants.
We will keep you informed of any significant changes in these restart schedules.
