Subject:

Monthly Report on Status of the Replacement of the Wellesley Reception Center

Dear Mr. De Agazio:

In your letter of July 7,1993 [ Reference (b)] you requested that the North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation (North Atlantic) provide you with an initial report and monthly updates on the status of efforts to replace the Massachusetts Highway Department's Wellesley facility as a reception center in the event of a radiological emergency at Seabrook Station. North Atlantic provided its initial report on August 13,1993 [ Reference (c)]. This letter is the first monthly update of the status of the replacement etTorts.

In our le+ter of August 13,1993, we stated that seven of ten candidate locations were still being considered as part of the site selection process. One of these sites has expressed interest in serving as the replacement reception center, and the Director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) acknowledged this interest in a letter sent to the facility on August 17,1993. In response to this letter, the governing body of the facility met on August 25,1993 and approved the use of the facility as a reception center. In a letter to the facility administrator dated September 10, 1993, the Director of MEMA confirmed the selection of the facility as the new reception center.

Planning and associated activities will begin on or before September 20,1993. This is consistent with the schedule provided via Reference (c). North Atlantic will provide planning assistance and the necessary equipment to support these efforts.
