Subject: Announced Inspection No. 50-193/93-03
An announced safety inspection was conducted by Messrs. Thomas Dragoun and Stephen
Holmes of this office on August 10-12 & 16-18,1993 of the refueling and restart of the Rhode
Island Nuclear Science Center Reactor. Discussions of our findings were held by Messrs.
Dragoun and Holmes with you and other members of your staff at the conclusion of this
inspection.
Areas reviewed included the physical facility, surveillances, fuel shipping and receipt, fuel
loading and initial criticality.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel and

observations by the inspectors.

Within the scope of this review, no safety concerns or violations were observed. The reactor
was restarted in a well controlled and safe manner. No reply to this letter is required.
