Dear Mr. Chairman:
At the May 6, 1993 hearing concerning regulation of medical radiation uses, the Commission indicated that it was considering options for changes in the regulation of radiation medicine.
Several approaches were mentioned at the hearing.
You requested an evaluation of these or additional options along with a recommendation by the Commission, and asked that the Commission provide an interim report to the committee.
Additionally, you requested our views on S.
1938, the " Federal Radiation Protection-Management Act of 1979," as introduced in 1979.
We are pleased to provide you the interim report (Enclosure 1) and the Commission's views on S. 1938 (Enclosure 2).
The Commission will continue to keep you apprised of its activities, including the proposed assessment of this issue by the National Academy of Sciences, and its decisions regarding regulation of the medical use of radioactive material.
I would be pleased to meet with you to discuss this matter.
Sincerely, v;4 Ivan Selin
