Generallieant Corwy 175 Carmer Avenue San Jose CA 95125 September 17,1993 MFN No.147-93 Docket No. STN 52-001 Document Control Desk G. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington DC 20555 Attention: Jerry N. Wilson, Action Director Standardization Project Directorate

Subject:

Submittal of Amendment 32, Non-Proprietary Information to GE's ABWR SSAP, an<1 Design Certification Material (Tier 1), Revision 1

References:

1. Submittal of Amendment 32, Proprietany Information to GE's ABWR SSAR, MFN No.148-93, dated September 17,1993
2. Submittal of Amendment 32, Safeguards Information to GE's ABWR SSAR, MFN No.149-93, dated September 17,1993 Enclosed are thirty-four (34) copies of amended non-proprietary sections of the Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR) for the Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR). Amendment 32 transmits the finalinformation required for the Staff to complete its review of the ABWR.

Except as hereinafta noted, this submission, in conjunction with prior ABWR submittals, completes satisfaction of the requirements of 10 CFR %52.47.

Amendment 32 also provides information resulting from GE's internal SSAR verification process which has been conducted in full compliance with GE procedures governing treatment of engineering documentation. GE's verification process is intended to assure that the reissued ABWR SSAR (Amendment 31) as augmented by Amcadment 32, accurately reflects its design documentation, is technically accurate and consistent within itself, and accurately depicts the ABWR Design Certification Material (Tier 1). An affirmation letter complying with the filing requirements of 10 CFR f52.45(d) and G50.30(b)is attached.

As a result of the f'nal phases of the SSAR verification process, a small number of changes

(<5%) were identified that affect the August 31,1993 submittal of ABWR Design Certification Material (Tier 1). Thirty-four (34) copies of these changed pages are enclosed.

Amendment 32 provides the final resolution of June 10,1993 Punch List Items 5,6,9,12,13,14, 17,23,29,40,41,45 and 46. With the exception of four (4) Technical Specification related items scheduled for completion in Noi ember 1993, all other Punch List Items are addressed in Amendments 28,30 and 31.

i Each copy of the non-proprietary portion of Amendment 32 consists of one box of 8-1/2 x 11 inch pages, and two boxes containing large size drawings. About 60% of the 8-1/2 x 11 inch pages contain changes identified by bar-markers in the left hand column, a good portion of which result from completing the units conversion effort. The remaining pages result from automatic pagination. All of the pages are identified in Table 1 (Page Change Instruction (s) attached).

I Further, GE is replacing all drawings in order to conform to GE document standards. The bulk of the changed drawings, therefore, are cosmetic-type changes which only alter the border of the drawings. To facilitate Staff review, the drawings affected solely by technical changes are l identified in Table 2 (attached).

l Please note that all or parts of the following contain information that is designated as General Electric Proprietary Information: Sections 1.3 and 6.3; Appendices 3B,4B,4C,4D and 20A. This information is being submitted under separate cover (Reference 1).

Also, note that a portion of Appendix 19C, Safeguards Information, is included in this amendment. This information is also being submitted under separate cover (Reference 2).

Sincerely,

~
