SUBJECT:
REVIEW 0F INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY RESEARCH REACTOR CODES As requested in a memorandum from Albert P. Kenneke to James L. Blaha dated May 25, 1993, the staff has reviewed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) documents " Safety Guide on the Safety Assessment of Research Reactors and Preparation of the Safety Analy:,is Report" and " Safety Guide on Utilization and Modification of Research Reactors." These guides are generally consistent with the approach that NRC follows in the regulation of research reactors. Specific comments on the guides to be provided to IAEA are enclosed.
Please direct any questions concerning this review to Alexander Adams of the Non-Power Reactors and Decommissioning Project Directorate in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation at 504-1127.
