SUBJECT:
ASSESSMENT OF ECCS TORUS SUCTION VALVES' CATEGORIZATION AND TESTING EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. M83001 AND M83002)
By letter dated December 10, 1991, the NRC staff transmitted a Safety Evaluation (SE) regarding your pumps and valves' inservice testing program for the second 10-year interval for Plant Hatch.
In the SE, the staff requested that you review the ASME Code,Section XI, IWV-2100 categorization and testing of the ECCS torus suction valves to ensure that their current categorization and testing are appropriate. By letter dated March 10, 1992, you responded to the staff's request.
l The staff has reviewed your response and finds that the current categorization and testing requirements for these valves do not have to be changed at this time. However, the staff is currently considering a potential generic backfit regarding the categorization and testing of these valves. You will be notified if the staff decides to readdress this issue for Plant Hatch.
This letter completes the NRC staff actions regarding TAC Nos. H83001 and M83002.
