September 7, 1993 Docket Nos. 50-321 and 50-366 Mr. J. T. Beckham, Jr.
Vice President - Plant Hatch Georgia Power Company P. O. Box 1295 Birmingham, Alabama 35201
Dear Mr. Beckham:
SUBJECT:
EDWIN I. HATCH, UNITS 1 AND 2 - RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 93-02,
" DEBRIS PLUGGING OF EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SUCTION STRAINERS" (TAC N0s. M86569 and M86570)
This letter acknowledges receipt of your response transmitted by letter dated May 25, 1993, to NRC Bulletin 93-02 (Bulletin). The Bulletin was issued May 11, 1993, to all nuclear power reactor licensees.
It requested licensees to identify fibrous material in the primary containment, take any necessary compensatory measures, and remove any such material.
Your letter stated that during the recent Unit I refueling outage in the spring of 1993, filters were not installed on the drywell cooling units.
Unit 2 recently underwent a fuel inspection c :tage in the spring of 1993.
Records indicate that filters were not installed on the cooling units during this outage. However, during the Unit 2 refueling outage in the fall of 1992, filters were installed on the drywell cooling units. The maintenance work order that documented installation of these filters also documented removal of the filters on October 28, 1997, prior to the drywell closure.
Based on our review of your submittal, we consider your actions to be complete.
Please retain any records of your actions in response to this Bulletin, as subsequent inspection activities may be conducted in regard to this issue.
This completes our action on TAC Nos. M86569 and M86570.
Should you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 504-1496.
Sincerel,
