McGuire Nuclear Station, Unit 2 Docket No: 50-370

Dear Sir:

As a follow up to the steam leak from the secondary side of the "A" Steam Generator on August 31,1993, and in response to the Confirmation of Action Letter issued by NRC/ Region 11 on September 1,1993, Duke Power Company has taken the following actions:

1)

A Site Management Team (SMT) headed by E. M. Geddie, Station Manager, conducted a comprehensive investigation of the event. Tha SMT's report was submitted to the NRC on September 5,1993, and Revision 1 submitted on September 6,1993. All short term action items from this investigation have been completed.

2)

A Significant Event Investigation Team (SEIT) headed by W. M. Sample, Manager of Safety Assurance, Nuclear Services, conducted an investigation of the event. We have completed an evaluation of tiie recommendations of the SEIT and established appropriate corrective actions for each recommendation with scheduled completion dates for any items not yet completed.

Long term action items identified will be tracked to completion and will be available for inspection by the Resident inspectors.

After completing leak repairs on valves 2NC-14 and 2NC-5160 and resolving outstanding issues on NRC Bulletin 93-02, Unit 2 will be ready for entry into Mode 2. Prior to entering Mode 2, concurrence will be obtained from S. D. Ebneter, Regional Administrator, NRC Region 11.

It is currently estimated that the Unit will be ready for entry into Mode 2 late night on September 7,1993, and on-line on September 10,1993.

Very truly yours, f@lM r T. C. McMeekin 1 1 G n 7il 9309150254 930907 O
