Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant 1650 Calvert Cliffs Parkway i

l Lusby, Maryland 20657 - 4702

Dear Mr. Denton:

\\

Subject:

NRC's Participation in Emergency Preparedness Exercise l

NRC Region I is planning to panicipate in the emergency preparedness exercise at the Calven i

Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, scheduled for the week of October 25,1993. Region I will be playing a full panicipation role which includes both a Base Team operation as well as a Site j

Team operatian.

When Region I participates as a player in a licensee exercise, we prefer that representatives from the licensee's Emergency Preparedness staff provide the Region I staff about a two hour briefing on their emergency organization, facilities, and procedures. We would like to have such a briefing in the Region I office about two weeks prior to the Calvert Cliffs exercise. Although I have enclosed an agenda from a previous briefing for your information, you should not feel constrained to follow it. Your agenda should reflect the aspects of your Emergency Response Program that your staff feels NRC personnel should be knowledgeable of to ensure a well coordinated response.

We will be in contact with your staff, as well as representatives from the surrounding states, to schedule this training session. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. David J. Chawaga of my staff at (215) 337-5082.

Sincerely,

/7 i
