Letter, VYNPC to USNRC, BVY 91-117, dated 11/27/91

Subject:

Turbine Building Roof Vents

Dear Sir:

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the status and updated implementation schedule for modification of the turbine building roof vent discharge at Vermont Yankee.

In Reference b), we provided our plans to modify the turbine building roof vents by means of a hardware change which would reroute the roof vent discharge to the plant stack.

We committed to proceed with the detailed design and, barring unforeseen problems, expected to complete this modification no later than the end of the 1993 refueling outage.

At the present time, the detailed design has been completed, equipment purchased, and installation has begun. By the end of the presently ongoing 1993 refueling outage, the two (2) existing turbine building roof ventilators will be electrically disconnected and capped, terminating these points as release points from the turbine building. Capping of the roof vent paths, combined with maintenance work which has been performed on the existing turbine building HVAC system, ensures all turbine building ventilation effluent goes to the plant stack.

Thus, the intent of our commitment to reroute all turbine building ventilation effluent to the plant stack by the end of the 1993 refueling outage will be fully met.

We have had some unforseen problems in completing the design work and in acquiring the appropriate manpower for the installation work.

Therefore, the modification work is not expected to be completed until shortly after the 1993 outage.
