Dear Dr. Murley:

In the Reference (a) letter, Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO) j provided its initial response to subject NRC Bulletin (IEB) 93-03, i

" Resolution of Issues Related to Reactor Vessel Water Level Instrumentation in BWRs." The original response for LaSalle Unit 2 stated the following:

"During the 5th refuel outage (L2R05 beginning Sept 1993), the backfill modification will be installed. When the unit starts up, only the Post Accident Monitoring legs will be valved in. At the first shutdown after 6 months experience has been accumulated with the system, the reference leg for the Division 2 trip systems will be valved in. At the second shutdown after the same six months experience, the remaining reference legs will be valved in."

In the time frame since submitting the Reference (a) letter, CECO has been i

evaluating progress made towards completion of the hardware modifications for LaSalle County Unit 2. After further analysis of the CECO IEB 93-03 modification program and the continuing evaluation ofindustry experience to date, CECO is supplementing our original response for LaSalle County Unit 2. This supplemental response is stated as follows:

For LaSalle Unit 2: During the 5th refuel outage (L2R05 beginning Sept 1993), the backfill modification will be installed. When the unit starts up, all reference legs associated with the backfill modification will be valved in and declared operable. If problems are encountered with reactor vessel level that are discovered to be directly attributable to the backfill y 9, y ',,-

modification, LaSalle will disable the backfill system and immediately notify
